“Up, Up and Away” was installed in the lobby of Kosair Children’s Hospital in the spring of 2010. The sculpture starts from about 7 feet off the ground and then twists, turns and soars over 33 feet up towards the ceiling. “Up, Up and Away” was collaboratively designed by Brook Forrest White, Jr. on the glass work and Bryan Holden on the metal work. The sculpture consists of two portions. The main piece contains 18 colorful glass disks that step their way up an intricately woven metal-work vine. A smaller portion of the sculpture is on another wall and is about 8 ft. tall with 3 glass disks. With its fluid sweeps and strategically placed lighting that makes the sculpture seem alive, it’s something to inspire anyone’s imagination.
