Crystal Editions: An intersection of Glass and Printmaking
“Crystal Editions” runs from September 2nd until November 17th with a mid-exhibition reception and demo scheduled for Friday, October 7th, 5:30pm to 9:00pm.
Flame Run Gallery has partnered with Louisville printmakers, Rodolfo Salgado Jr. and Susanna Crum, of Calliope Arts Printmaking Studio, to co-curate an exhibition of hybrid glass and printmaking art in conjunction with the Mid America Printmaking Conference which will be held in Louisville in October.
“Crystal Editions” at Flame Run will open September 2nd, featuring work by Johnny Gordon, Brandon Smith, Devin French, Brad Vetter, and Hayden Wilson. The exhibit will portray a variety of printmaking applications on glass including powder print on blown glass, screen printing with glass paints and silver stains, and stenciled frit fired onto glass.
Susanna Crum, who is also head of the printmaking department at IU Southeast, stated,
“I’m thrilled to help coordinate the upcoming Mid-America Print Council. As co-founders of Calliope Arts, Rudy Salgado and I are always looking for opportunities to spread the word of printmaking in Louisville. We were happy to talk with Flame Run about what a printmaking show at a glassblowing gallery would look like, and had some interesting conversations about the intersections between glassblowing and printmaking. I’m excited to see how the artists in Crystal Editions explore and negotiate the relationships between printed image and glass, and am grateful to Flame Run for participating in the 2016 Mid America Print Conference.”
